At Snehalaya, we believe that every woman and child deserves a life free from inequality, discrimination, and cruelty. As an Indian organization, we are dedicated to promoting social change by providing valuable skills to individuals in regions with high unemployment and limited healthcare resources.
With 23 projects focused on rehabilitation, health, education, and awareness-raising, we have already supported over 200,000 beneficiaries. Our shelter homes provide a safe and supportive environment for over 400 individuals, with our own on-site school and HIV hospital. We are committed to promoting equality through education and serving as a model grassroots NGO that can be replicated across India. Join us in our mission to empower communities and create a better future for all.
Issue:
An Equal Chance at Quality Education for Children on HIV Medications:
Established in 2010, our English Medium School was initially designed to cater to the educational needs of children in our Rehab Centre who struggled in mainstream schools due to their restricted health and HIV medication.
With a curriculum tailored to meet their special needs and emphasizing interactive learning through sports and the arts, we have successfully improved academic performance and provided opportunities for 200 children aged 4 to 16 years.
In addition, we welcome children from slums and local communities who have been excluded from other schools due to their social standing or background, promoting social integration and acceptance. At our core, we believe that education is a fundamental right, and by investing in it, we can address major societal issues such as poverty, child trafficking, and gender inequality.
Action:
At Snehalaya, we believe education is key to changing the lives of underprivileged children. Despite facing reluctance from private schools, we established our own English Medium School in 2010 to provide a unique educational experience for children with special needs. Our dedicated teachers, trained in first aid, health education, and counseling, aim to develop awareness and capability beyond academics for those who have been deprived of their rights due to inequality and exploitation.
Impact :
A Colossal Impact: Access to Quality Education for All Children
Currently, 200 students are enrolled in SEMS from LKG to 10th standard (SSC).
Primary Cause :
Children in our school are orphans, semi-orphans, children of sex workers, Children living with HIV-AIDS, children from slums and adjacent rural areas and children from lowest economic background. All these children are not given equal opportunities for quality education by reputed schools due to the taboo surrounding their HIV status, economic and social background. The Snehalaya English medium school was started primarily to impart education to all such children.
