Computers, cycles needed for Pimpalgaon school
Lack of toilets or good toilets in schools causes great discomfort to students, especially girls. Therefore schools must have good toilets. Also, students need to be able to use new technologies and become digitally literate. Sakal Media Group’s Social for Action has started an activity called ‘Act for Education’ to provide all these necessary facilities to students in schools. Under this activity, a toilet has been built in the Zilla Parishad primary school in Tambhad, in Bhor taluka while the construction of a toilet is underway at Saraswati Secondary School in Velhe taluka. Simultaneously, three Zilla Parishad Primary Schools from Khed and Ambegaon talukas in Pune district have been provided an e-learning set-up.
The story of Pimpalgaon Gangdev ZP school
When you are travelling towards the world-famous Ajanta Caves from Aurangabad (Sambhajinagar???), in Fulambri taluka, you will find Pimpalgaon Gangdev, a small, beautiful village located on the road leading towards Rajur Ganapati. The school has a Zilla Parishad school that conducts Std 1 to 8 classes. The school was founded in 1959. There are 4 teachers and 95 students currently studying there.
Although there are English medium schools at barely a 5-km distance from Pimpalgaon, the number of students in the ZP school is increasing by the day due to the quality education imparted there and the amenities it provides like playground, clean drinking water, beautifully painted classroom walls, green school campus, regular midday meal, yoga classes on Saturdays, etc. The students of the ZP school are not only academically bright but they are also outstanding in elocution, debate, quiz and drawing competitions, science exhibitions and scholarship examinations.
Computers for the school
Digital education makes grasping the syllabus easy for students. Currently, the school uses cellular phones to conduct digital meetings or extra classes. It does not have computers. These rural students therefore face challenges in surviving the competition with their urban counterparts. People from all social strata need to come forward to provide the school with computers or financial help.
Cycles for the girl students
The Pimpalgaon Gangdev school has classes till Std 8. For further studies, students have to travel to the nearby Pathri village. Public transport turns out expensive for them, so most students walk for 5-6 km to reach Pathri. Many parents have discontinued their daughters’ education because they don’t want to send the girls outside. A cycle bank project needs to be undertaken so that the girl students can travel to and from the school. Initially, 50 cycles are needed for the cycle bank project and it can be scaled up over time. People from all social strata need to contribute towards this cause. Generous individuals, IT companies, CSR companies and non-resident Indians can extend financial help or provide cycle for the project.
