Mitra Foundation

Learn about ‘Mitra Foundation’, an NGO that conducts integrated training programs for rural and agricultural development in the drought-stricken area of Barshi taluka in Solapur district and strives for women’s empowerment, employment-oriented skills training, and raising the living standards of women and families.

Mitra’s long-form ‘Mission of Integrated Training on Rural and Agriculture Development’ is aimed at implementing integrated training activities for rural and agricultural development. The Mitra Foundation continues to fight for the legal rights of the poor and economically backward communities, children, women, and the underprivileged and contributes democratically to justice. To bring together economically backward women in rural areas through self-help groups and to enhance their leadership qualities, the Mitra Foundation was formed in 2013 by Ravi Kiran Katkar, an agricultural graduate from Barshi taluka, working with a social NGO, Founded ‘Mitra Foundation’. The objectives of the organization are to improve the living standards of the economically backward communities in rural areas by creating agricultural and other employment opportunities, especially for economically backward women.

Through Mitra Foundation, women in rural areas, smallholder farmers, and persons with disabilities are provided credit for their business through vocational training programs based on agriculture and small-scale industries. At the same time, resources are made available to economically backward communities, especially women, to start and run businesses for productive and sustainable livelihoods. It also provides capital to businesses based on various financial and financial lending institutions. The quality of the Mitra Foundation is to serve the unorganized and economically backward people in the community in a quality, efficient and effective manner. Credibility is the core of the organization.

The Board of Directors of the organization believes that the economically backward women in the society are eligible and trustworthy for these bank loans. Short and short-term loans can make a huge difference in the lives of disadvantaged people. According to the principles of the organization, debt is a basic human right, lending to the poor instead of giving alms or donations can change their lifestyle and awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship hidden in them. Instead of helping the economically backward to meet their basic needs, the organization taught them how to make money. Through the organization, self-employment opportunities were created by providing loans to economically backward women and the underprivileged, enabling them to create a source of income for themselves.

Mitra Foundation is working in rural areas of Barshi, Madha, and Karmala talukas of Solapur district. So far, 150 women’s self-help groups and 465 joint liability groups have been established through the organization. Through NABARD and Vidarbha Konkan Grameen Bank, the organization has so far recruited 2315 (two thousand three hundred and fifteen) women from various savings groups and joint liability groups for agri-based business, textile business, hotel food-processing industry, real estate purchase, retail shops, construction business, and service sector. A loan of Rs 14 crore has been allotted for businesses. Based on this financial assistance, economically backward women in rural areas have started various income-generating businesses and self-employment. As a result, their financial income has increased.

Apart from women’s empowerment, other social activities are also implemented by the organization. These include Environmental Conservation, Business Training, Organic Farming, Economic Literacy, Water Conservation, Sakshar Bharat Abhiyan, Consumer Literacy, etc. The organization is running the project. The use of chemical fertilizers in the agricultural sector has adversely affected the health and is increasing the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls and women. In order to maintain good health and reduce the incidence of malnutrition, the organization is implementing organic farming training programs for women in rural areas and other groups for organic farming using organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers, training program, Expenditure on training materials, seed distribution, distribution of agricultural implements, vermicomposting training, etc. is high.

The organization needs funds to impart training in organic farming to more women and other sections of the society in rural areas of Barshi, Madha, and Karmala areas as well as to implement vocational training activities. And the organization needs the collective help of all of us to accomplish this task.
