In Maharashtra, various social activities are organized by NGOs in various fields. A digital crowdfunding platform called “Social for Action” was launched in January 2021 to provide financial support to such NGOs through crowdfunding under Sakal Social Foundation to bring together NGOs and donors.
The campaign has received spontaneous responses from organizations and donors. In one year, thirteen NGOs have been implemented through the Social for Action Campaign, Bharat Jodo Yuva Akademi (Nanded), Prarthana Foundation (Solapur), and Yashodhan Trust (Satara).
“Social for Action”, a digital platform for crowdfunding, is being launched in the new year to provide crowd funding for various initiatives of NGOs in Maharashtra and Goa working for the upliftment of various underprivileged sections of the society. Through the ‘Social for Action’ campaign, information about an NGO is given every week in the ‘Samajbhan’ section. In today’s area of Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara areas, let’s see the information of the organization ‘Avani’ which is working to uplift the standards of living of the children, migrant workers like brick kiln workers, sugarcane workers by giving them the right to education and bringing them into the stream of education.
Parasram Kamble, who came from a small village in Belgaum with his family to a brick kiln in Kolhapur for work, was telling his experience that, When we came to work at the brick kiln for six months, the staff of Avani Sanstha used to come to our place and take the information of the children and ask them to send them to school. He also said that children should not be allowed to work on the brick kiln.
After a few days, he would start a school for children in our neighborhood. During the day, we forget where our children are, what they are doing, what they may have eaten.
But at school, the children were playing with education, eating their fill. We were happy to see all this. Also, our work in Covid and lockdown stopped and when we could not go back to our village we were given all the safety equipment and necessities – food and all other things by the Avani organization, so we could survive. Now we are going to make our children have a bright future by teaching them.
Avani was founded in 1994 by the late Arun Chavan at Sangli. Now the work of the organization is started under the guidance of the president of the organization Anuradha Bhosale. In the Kolhapur district, many families migrate from Vidarbha and Marathwada for brick kiln and sugarcane harvesting. Migrant workers from one place according to the season and the work they get – Have to constantly move to another place with family. When the education of the children of such migrant families is disrupted, these children are deprived of education. The majority of these children have to work as child laborers. The number of child laborers working in brick kilns and other places is very high and as a result, these children turn to addiction and crime.
Education is important to bring the sons and daughters of migrant workers into the mainstream. Many social initiatives are being implemented by Avani Sanstha to free such children from child labor, bring them into the process of education and rehabilitate them.
Avani Kindergarten: -For the last 28 years, Avani Kindergarten has been running this project for the holistic development of destitute, deprived, out-of-school, single parents, children working in brick kilns, scavenger hunters, and girls in garbage collection slums. So far eleven thousand five hundred children have come into the stream of education through the organization.

Day Care Center Project: -The Avani organization has been working for fifteen years to bring the children of garbage collectors into the process of education. Daycare centers are run for children in the age group of 3 to 5 years to bring these children into the educational process. Seven hundred boys and girls are provided free education every year through daycare centers.

Also, 754 children in the age group of 7 to 14 years have been given the basic right to primary education, enrolled in primary school, and brought into the process of education.
