Last year, ‘Social for Action’, a digital platform in the form of a website was started to spread information about the social activities of Sakal Social Foundation. The website received huge response and it was decided to use ‘Social for Action’ to bring social service organisations and donors together and facilitate crowdfunding. Every Sunday, information about NGOs engaged in genuine work is published in the newspaper and posted on website.
In the course of one year, Social for Action has run campaigns for 10 organisations and handed over the funds collected through crowd funding to the respective organisation. A brief overview of the organisations.
Devata Life Foundation
‘Social for Action’ published a story about Nagpur-based Devata Life Foundation that adopts cancer patients under 12 years and works to make them cancer-free by providing them medicines and treatment. ‘Social for Action’ made an appeal for funds to treat the 12 children adopted by Devata Life Foundation. Helpers of the Handicapped
Helpers of the Handicapped, a Kolhapur-based organisation believes that the disabled must be empowered so that they can live a life of dignity and they need to be provided with all essential facilities for their physical, psychological, educational, financial, marital rehabilitation. The organisation has been continuously working for the last 37 years to achieve this goal. ‘Social for Action’ published information about them. Yashodhan Trust
Yashodhan Trust has been actively working in Wai on Satara Road for the destitute and people with mental disorders. ‘Social for Action’ gave publicity to the NGO. An appeal was made through a campaign for financial help to carry out annual health check-ups for the homeless and mentally unstable people and also to build a new building for an ashram. The appeal received tremendous response. Not only have the funds been handed over to Yashodhan Trust but the construction of the new ashram building has also been completed. Since there is a constant flow of new homeless and mental patients at the institute, the organisation is constantly in need of funds for their annual check-ups, medicines, treatment, and meals. Prarthana Foundation
At Morvanchi in Solapur district, young couple Anantamma Krishnaiyya and Prasad Mohite, founders of Prarthana Foundation, run a project called ‘Vanchitanchi shala – Ek paaul pragatikade’ (School for the deprived – a step towards progress) for the destitute, homeless and beggar children as well as those from low income groups. ‘Sakal’ had published an article on this couple in its ‘Samajbhan’ column. An appeal for financial help was made through ‘Social for Action’ for Prarthana Foundation’s proposed ‘Prarthana Balgram’, a hostel that can house 300 homeless children and elderly people. The appeal received great response. Pravin Masalewale Charitable Trust from Pune extended huge help under its CSR initiatives.
The funds collected have been handed over to Prarthana Foundation. Thanks to ‘Social for Action’ campaign and its various donors, the construction of Prarthana Balgram hostel building has been completed and now work is underway for an old age home. Mata Adishakti Samajik Pratishthan
Mata Adishakti Samajik Pratishthan, an NGO, strives for the empowerment of Adivasi women from the tribal-dominated Sakri taluka in Dhule district. The organisation works on the philosophy that imparting employment-oriented skills training to the women will help them stand on their own feet. ‘Social for Action’ had published an article informing people about the ‘Usha Silai School’ activity being run by Mata Adishakti Samajik Pratishthan through which it provided training in tailoring to the needy women and help them start their tailoring business. It also made an appeal for financial aid for the Pratishthan to buy stitching machines and other materials. Mata Balak Utkarsh Pratishthan
In Sangola taluka of Solapur district, a few women came together under the leadership of Dr Sanjeevani Kelkar and started a movement and also an organisation called Mata Balak Utkarsh Pratishthan for the welfare of women and families. The organisation runs a school for the children from lower income groups till Std 10. There are more than 1,000 students in the school. The school lacked toilet facility for girls, causing them great inconvenience. A campaign was run through Sakal’s ‘Social for Action’ to get funds to build a toilet in the school. It was received really well and Desai Brothers Limited from Pune came forward to extend help through their CSR initiatives. Maher
Maher works for destitute children, mentally disabled women and victims of violence from across India, without any considerations of gender, caste, sect or religion. It provides them shelter, psychological support, education and professional training so that they can earn and live a life of dignity. It accommodates 40 children. ‘Social for Action’ had made an appeal for funds to take care of the annual educational fees and materials, uniforms and other materials as well as healthcare and groceries for the children. NEUMAN & ESSER Engineering India Pvt. Ltd, a company operating from Chakan, Pune, extended invaluable help through its CSR initiatives. The funds collected thus have been handed over to the organisation. Act for Education
Lack of toilets or good toilets in schools causes great discomfort to students, especially girls. On the academic front, students need to be digitally literate. ‘Social for Action’ realised this and started an activity called ‘Act for Education’ to provide all necessary facilities to students in schools, namely a toilet, digital e-learning facility, etc. through crowdfunding. As part of this activity, toilets have been constructed in the Zilla Parishad primary school in Tambhad, in Bhor taluka and Saraswati Secondary School in Velhe taluka. Also 3 Zilla Parishad primary schools in Khed and Ambegaon talukas in Pune district have been provided with an e-learning setup. Distribution of educational and essential materials’
‘Social for Action’ provided educational and essential materials kits to 43 children from Caring Hands organisation that works to bring students from nomadic, migrant families and those shunned by society into the mainstream of society. It also provided educational and essential materials kits to 49 children from St Crispin’s Home, Pune that runs a residential project for the destitute, homeless and one-parent children as also girls enrolled by the police and Bal Kalyan Samiti. How people can contribute
Social for Action posts information about social activities being undertaken by various NGOs. Benevolent individuals, IT companies, CSR companies and non-resident Indians can get information about these campaigns. They can also click the ‘Donate Now’ button and make online donations through ‘Social for Action’ website. Every donor making a donation through this crowdfunding will get a receipt for the donation and the 80G certificate for 50% rebate in the Income Tax.
How NGOs can participate
Various NGOs can post information about their social activities on https://socialforaction.com/ . They can visit the site, go to the NGO Fundraising section, fill up the form meant for NGOs and start a fundraising campaign for online crowd funding. The NGO must have their registration certificate, 80-G certificate and 12-A certificate.
